La comptine a toujours été une forme de prédilection pour Maurice Sendak comme en témoignent ces historiettes qui furent parmi ses premiers pas comme auteur au tout début des années soixante. Mêlant garçons au tempérament théatral et créatures aux dents aiguisées les illustrations en trichromie n’ont pas fini de marquer les jeunes esprits.

Nursery rhymes have long been Maurice Sendak’s favorite way of writing, as you can see in these short stories published in the early sixties. Mixing determined boys with wild creatures, the tri-coloured drawings are willing and able to impress young minds.
