Second book published by Ann McGovern in collaboration with her friend photographer Hope Wurmfeld after the 1976 bestseller Black is beautiful.

First picture book illustrated by Georges Lemoine, this book came from an idea of Etienne Delessert for Good Book / McCall Publishing back in 1971. A few years later it naturally took place in Delessert’s own publishing house Éditions Tournesol.
The U.S. editions mentions Herb Lubalin and Annegret Beier as designers, the french one does not.

How could an illustrator fascinated by race car meet up with an occasional writer to create this crazy book for children?
