Une vingtaine d‘années après avoir créé le premier livre pour enfants en papier découpé aux États-Unis (voir Le Petit Pompier) Esphyr Slobodkina n'en a pas fini avec ce médium. Fidèle à son découpage géométrique de la page et à des rapports très plastiques du texte et de l‘image, elle propose ici aux jeunes lecteurs un texte de sa composition, simple et précis de bout en bout. 

Twenty years after she created the first children papercut book in the United States (see Le Petit Pompier ) Esphyr Slobodkina is not over with this technique. Faithful to her geometrical layout and to visual connections between text and picture, she offers her young readers her own text, simple and accurate.

Sous-titré Nursery, Cradle, Folk and Popular Songs, Hymns, Carols, Rounds and Singing Games, ce grand livre donna à Mary Blair l’occasion de travailler enfin la figure de Humpty Dumpty, écarté de l’Alice de Disney quelques années plus tôt, et pour lequel elle avait élaboré graphisme et gamme colorée.
Encore un film avec le studio (Peter Pan) et elle allait se consacrer en priorité à son travail d’illustratrice pour l’édition et la publicité, avant d’être rappelée par Walt Disney pour travailler sur ses attractions.

Subtitled “Nursery, Cradle, Folk and Popular Songs, Hymns, Carols, Rounds and Singing Games” this big book allowed Mary Blair to work on the Humpty Dumpty character, removed from Disney’s Alice a few years before. She had worked on this movie as a visual stylist and color designer.
One more movie with the studio (Peter pan) and she would then turn her career towards advertising and children books, before Walt Disney called her back to work on his attractions, in parks and fairs.

C’est une quinzaine d’années après avoir été le directeur artistique du long métrage éponyme que Dick Kelsey est revenu illustrer l’histoire de Dumbo sur un texte d’Annie North Bedford. Il existait déjà une édition contemporaine à la sortie du film, mais cette version pour la collection Big Golden Book était plus ambitieuse. Il rejoindra ensuite C.W. Wood pour travailler sur des parcs d’attractions concurrents de Disneyland. Il réintègrera les équipes de Disney après la mort de Walt.

Almost fifteen years had passed since Dick Kesley was the artistic director of the eponymous animated movie, when he was offered to do the illustrations of this more ambitious version of the book. After that he would quickly join C.W. Wood to work on amusement parks such as Magic Mountain, after “Woody” was fired by Walt Disney. He will eventually be hired again by the studios after the master’s death.
