More narrative than the others picture books with translucent pages created by Annette Tison and Talus Taylor for La Farandole editions, L‘Aventure des animaux invisibles is more like a game. There is nothing to learn here, the only matter is to play with hidden shapes — not unlike Ann Jonas‘s or Mitsumasa Anno‘s work.

For Annette Tison and Talus Taylor, have always considered the book as a tool to explain the world to children. Using the medium against itself, it is the color separation technique used in the industrial printing process that is exposed here. The clever idea of translucent pages in this picture book will be used again in other titles. Please have a look at Un château pour Angélo & L'Aventure des animaux invisibles.

For any Barbapapa reader, one of the biggest excitement is probably the view inside the strange house of this soft family.
Expanding this principle to the whole human architecture, Annette Tison and Talus Taylor use the translucent pages at their best, translucent pages they had already used in their work for La Farandole editions at the beginning of the ‘70s.

In spite of a unique style of illustration, René Moreu could easily be compared to André François. Same generation, same freedom, same joy in the pictures of a happy world.
But André François was definitly a drawing guy when his colleague stayed a true painter. Michelangelo vs. Leonardo, I’d love to hear Ninja Turtles debate about that.

Jean Ollivier, one of the most prolific writers of French comics, at work with his friend and co-worker at Vaillant, René Moreu. The first guy is a nerd with a passion for history, as the second is a graphic designer, executive editor, on his way to become an artist.
In this book he’s able to play with the printing techniques, working with tones as a painter with his paint tubes. As you see, colours are still kicking today, even with that old paper turning yellow.
